Yesterday I spent the day in Geneva, killing time between dropping off McGregor at the airport and waiting for relatives to fly in.
Have you ever spent 3 months away from the city only to find it too overwhelming upon your return? Because that's precisely how I felt. I was bothered by the traffic jams, conflicting signposts, the effort city driving takes , demanding you to concentrate on errant pedestrians, other cars coming to abrupt stops and parking places of anorexic proportions.
Of course it didn't help that the cash machine at Credit Suisse ate my debit card, leaving me completely peniless in one of the most expensive cities in the world (by the way, thank god for Western Union for money emergencies!). I spent sometime in FNAC, but not even that excited me. Whereas before I would salivate at the sight of a FNAC store, yesterday I found myself browsing the shelves with mechanical indifference, wishing I wasn't in such a confined space. Sure, i did revel at the site of a Thai restaurant, where I had some lemongrass soup - a welcome change from the cheese exile I've been enduring in the Alps. I even enjoyed walking in the rain through old neighbourhoods packed with boutique restaurants, lavish store opening parties and some incredibly decadent delis. The owner of an olive oil shop spoon fed me with 4 different varieties of the aforementioned produce. The basil olive oil was an accomplished combination, worthy of the Gods, but at 13 euros for 100 ml I smiled appreciatively and said my goodbyes. As I stepped onto to the street again I found myself looking forward to the next day in the mountains.
so agora reparei que tinhas voltado 'a blogosfera, que bom, gosto muito de ler o teu blog! E Vive la France!!!
